Who is Esure?

Esure is based at Reigate in Surrey, and were formed by Sir Peter Wood, the man behind Sheilas’ Wheels and Direct Line. The Group now also includes First Alternative.

Esure has sold car insurance direct since 2000. They initially sold over the phone, before adding online sales and support soon after.

Given the insurer’s origins as a direct phone insurer, it’ll come as no surprise that the firm has a strong sales and customer support staff. It employs more than 1,500 people in offices and at call centres across the UK.

Between 2002 and 2007 Esure’s adverts featured film director Michael Winner, who memorably used the catchphrase “Calm down, dear”.

Since then, they’ve been associated with several high-profile media campaigns, including ‘Safe Drive, Stay Alive’.

Esure car insurance policy details

Esure offer 3 levels of cover to choose from:

Third party insurance is the lowest level of cover you can opt for if you want to drive on UK roads. It covers damage or injury to other vehicles or people, but not to your own.

Third- party, fire and theft covers everything a third party policy does, but adds in cover for your car if it’s stolen or damaged through fire.

Comprehensive car insurance policies cover all of the above, plus loss or damage to your car. They also typically cover injury to you or any of your passengers.

Guaranteed repair work, which ensures that any repairs to your car are guaranteed for five years, as long as the work was done at an Esure-approved garage.

Courtesy Car provision, which will provide you with a courtesy car while your own vehicle is being repaired.

Windscreen cover, which is included as standard as long as you use an Esure-approved technician.

In-car entertainment cover, which allows you to claim for loss of or damage to permanently-fitted electronic equipment in your car.

Legal liability cover for any legal fees you may incur if you or anyone else is injured or dies as a result of an accident you’re involved in.

Motoring legal advice from Esure’s advice line, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Esure optional extras

Esure offer a range of policy add-ons, allowing you to customise your cover and ensure it does exactly what you need it to.

For an extra fee, you can add the following to your standard car insurance policy:

Motor legal protection - helps recover uninsured loses and provides legal assistance if you need help with a dispute following an incident.
Breakdown cover - choose from 3 levels of cover provided by the RAC.
Car hire benefit - get a similar car if yours is stolen or declared a total loss after an accident.
Personal injury cover - receive a lump sum in the event of a death or serious injury for you or any named driver on the policy.
Key cover - retrieve, repair or replace missing keys.
Misfuelling cover - their partner RAC can help get you back on the road if you've misfuelled your car.
